Danny Williams – The Gentle Touch

The Gentle Touch stands as one of the most quietly affecting albums in Danny Williams' distinguished career — and, poignantly, his final studio recording. Released in 1996 on EMI Records, this collection of timeless ballads showcases the South African-born singer at his most refined: warm, unhurried, and utterly in command of his craft.

Williams, best known for his 1961 UK number-one hit "Moon River", brings decades of interpretive wisdom to a programme of classic songs. His voice — velvet-smooth and deeply expressive — glides through each track with the kind of effortless authority that only a lifetime in music can produce. This is traditional pop at its most elegant.

About the Artist

Danny Williams was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in 1942 and rose to prominence in the United Kingdom during the early 1960s. His silky baritone and impeccable phrasing earned him a devoted following, and his recording of "Moon River" — released the same year as the Audrey Hepburn film Breakfast at Tiffany's — reached number one in the UK charts. Over a career spanning four decades, he recorded numerous albums including Danny Williams (1961), With You in Mind (1964), and Anytime Anyplace Anywhere (1977). The Gentle Touch represents a fitting and graceful farewell from a singer of rare distinction. Danny Williams passed away in 2005.

An ideal addition to any collection of classic British pop or easy listening, this CD is presented in its original jewel case and is a must for admirers of the golden era of traditional pop.
