Eddie Lang — born Salvatore Massaro in the same city — was his lifelong friend and musical foil, a guitarist of such sophistication that he worked with everyone from Bing Crosby to Paul Whiteman. Their partnership ended tragically when Lang died on the operating table in 1933, making these recordings all the more precious.
