Enigma's second studio album, The Cross of Changes, arrived in 1993 and became one of the defining records of the new age and ambient pop movement. Masterminded by Michael Cretu — the Romanian-German producer who records under the Enigma name — it blends Gregorian chant, world music textures, and hypnotic electronic beats into something genuinely transportable. The album spawned the global hit Return to Innocence, one of the most recognisable tracks of the decade, alongside the brooding I Love You... I'll Kill You and the meditative Age of Loneliness. Produced and engineered by "Curly" Michael Cretu.
