Legends of the Fall is a grand, sweeping epic from 1994 - one of the great romantic adventure films of its decade, and the film that turned Brad Pitt into a genuine movie star.

Set against the vast Montana wilderness and spanning decades from the early 1900s through to the aftermath of the First World War, the film follows the three Ludlow brothers - the steady Alfred, the wild and untameable Tristan, and the idealistic Samuel - and the woman, Susannah, who changes all of their lives. At the centre of it all is Tristan, played by Pitt with a magnetic, barely contained intensity that is impossible to look away from.

Anthony Hopkins is magnificent as Colonel William Ludlow, the patriarch who watches his family torn apart by war, passion, and fate. Aidan Quinn brings quiet dignity to the most thankless role, and the film is photographed with breathtaking beauty by John Toll, who won the Academy Award for Cinematography.
